Spinning Novelty Yarns:  Corkscrews and Coils

Kandy Schwandt

Corkscrew Yarns are created by plying together yarns of radically different diameters so that one starts to wrap around the other.  This simple technique can be even and controlled or wildly creative, and we’ll explore both.
Coil Yarns are made by wrapping one yarn around another during plying to create a tight bead in the finished yarn.  This effect can be scattered randomly throughout the yarn or even used for the entire yarn.  Either way, it creates dramatic texture and impact.
